Brace Yourself – Lockdown August 2021

At least I have this handsome chap to keep me company in lockdown

So, here we are in Brisbane facing another week of lockdown. It doesn’t affect me greatly, although it means that I won’t be starting with the exercise physiologist. Bit of a bummer because I’m really keen to get started but there’s plenty I can do at home, and I support the lockdowns 100%.  You can see the difference that swift action takes in the outcomes in Victoria and Queensland and what dithering about and making a half-arsed attempt has done in New South Wales.

I’ve been busy getting more content together and developing a social media presence. I’m learning as I go which is daunting at times but also lots of fun.

I’ve set up a Facebook page for the website which you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/Peppas-Place-130504455849817

I’ve finally taken the plunge and have posted some of my creative writing on to the website here. You can find the various pieces under the menu heading “My Writing”. I hope to get a bit more up soon (If I can find where I’ve saved them!). This is a major step for me. I’ve only shared one of the pieces before now – the poem “my Mother’s Hands”. So, it’s a major leap for me but it’s part of me unapologetically putting myself out there and not worrying about how “good” my writing is.

I would really love to get feedback on what I’m producing, both in the blog and the creative writing so please don’t feel awkward to make a comment here or on any other social media platform (It’s just Facebook at the moment) or just simply click the like button.

This week I hope to get stuck into a bit more writing of the two stories I’ve been developing for about five years.  I usually write a bit, then leave it for two years and then write a bit more.  But I’ve got so much time on my hands now, it’s the perfect time to get back into it.

Billie the Beautiful continues to improve. He’s getting nice and robust and we’re going to start pulling back on the food a bit.  We needed to get him up from skin and bones which we have so now we need to make sure he doesn’t get fat! His snoring has improved as well. He still snores (bless him) but it doesn’t sound as much like a choking, sleep apnoea type of snort.

There are big holes appearing in my garden!! Nothing’s been dug up, but the spring onions were buried. I’m going to need to erect a little barrier.

His second favourite position is stretched out on his back.

He’s slowly getting more comfortable and less anxious. The anxiety reduction will take a while, but he’s responding well to having one of the medications removed. He’s not as quick to jump up and follow us out of the room. He is content to lay on the floor and doesn’t need to be by our sides all the time. He does still love to snuggle from time to time. I’d be heartbroken if he stopped that. One of his favourite positions is curled up next to me on the couch with his head in my lap while I massage the lovely soft skin under his neck. He makes little groaning noises (sounds a bit like a whale’s call!) when I pat him like this. It’s so heart-warming to hear his little happy noises.

Till next time…
